Congratulations to Kathryn on her Opening!

After decades of business success, Kathryn Boyd could have chosen to rest on her laurels and enjoy an early retirement. Instead she is opening a new painting franchise, Fresh Coat Painters of Lancaster, Pa., to promote professional painting services within her community.
It’s not the first time she’s been a woman in a male-dominated field. When she found herself as a single mother of two, Boyd knew she needed a better-paying position than her teaching job. She started work in a business brokerage house before becoming one of the first women to attain a license for the coupon company that later became Valpak, one of the most successful franchises in the country.

Buffalo gets a Fresh Coat

Sarah Steiner knows a lot about listening to people, evaluating their needs, and determining their best course of action. When she did a similar assessment of her own situation, she decided that by buying Fresh Coat Painters of Buffalo, N.Y., she would put herself on the right path.

The busy mother of 5-year-old twins wanted a business that allowed her to use her skills and experience while providing her and her husband, Erik, with the flexibility they needed for their lifestyle.

“We wanted a business we could believe in and we could support,” she said. “We did a lot of research, and when Fresh Coat came along, it just clicked. They’re supportive of the family and bringing families into the discussion. And Buffalo can use the services of a professional painting company that puts its focus on client service. Everything about this process just made sense. I could run the business, still be a mother, and not be tied up somewhere for specific hours.”

Giving Erie a Fresh Coat

As the owner of multiple businesses, Tony Campanella is a busy man, but he’s not one to pass up an excellent opportunity. He sees his new Fresh Coat Painters painting franchiseas a valuable service that fulfills a real need in his Erie, Pa., community.

“For 20 years, I worked in my family’s business of packaging and shipping industrial supplies,” he said. “For 10 years, I’ve owned multiple rental properties. Four years ago, I entered the hospitality business by opening a coffee shop. I see Fresh Coat as another income stream for me and a service for my community’s homeowners and small businesses.”

Although Fresh Coat is nationally known as the top residential painting company, Campanella said his rental properties demonstrated the need for services for small commercial enterprises.

Joseph Rossitto knows the importance of surrounding yourself with “smart people” on the road to success in life. With the launch of his Fresh Coat painting franchise in Wethersfield, Conn., he’s already seeing the benefits of following a proven business model.

“We’ve already completed our first job, and the client was very satisfied,” he said. “They want me to come back and give them another quote on their deck.”

That first job involved removing wallpaper and then painting, but it wasn’t just the appearance of the finished project that impressed the clients, he said. “What they really appreciated was that we showed up when we said we would, and we were done when we said we’d be done. And, we didn’t charge upfront for the work.”

Giving Orange County Another Fresh Coat

When Michael Vasquez says he knows painting, he means just that. With a background in art and interior design and a bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University, Michael recently opened Fresh Coat Painters of Orange County in Costa Mesa, Calif., the newest chapter of the successful, Cincinnati-based national franchise Fresh Coat Painters.

Michael realized he could fill the need for a great painting experience in Orange County. He studied how his uncle had successfully run his San Diego-based painting business for the last 20 years, and knew what he needed to do to start a successful painting business. After spending years in Orange County, Michael saw a need for a good, dependable, California painter that homeowners and office managers could use for big jobs as well as single rooms and touch ups at an affordable price.

Giving South Jersey a Fresh Coat

Kris Noyes likes making money, the more the better, and he’s willing to do what it takes to earn it. Indeed, Noyes started working at age 11 with a paper route that he grew from 30 homes to 120 in just a couple of years.  Since then he’s had a string of successful businesses, and at 35, he’s adding yet another: a Fresh Coat Painters franchise to serve southern New Jersey.

A fellow entrepreneur, Matthew McKay, introduced him to the franchise. McKay launched Fresh Coat Painters of Annapolis, Md., earlier this year.

“Matt and I are both owners of multiple Oreck stores, and we were chatting at a recent meeting when he told me about the company,” Noyes said. “I liked that the ideals of Fresh Coat matched those of Oreck. We put our clients first, and that’s what puts us in a different category than most vacuum cleaner companies. Fresh Coat is in a different category than most painting companies. Buying the franchise seemed like a great chance to add an income stream while providing a quality service.”

For more than 35 years, Bob Covino has operated his own businesses ranging from restaurants and nightclubs to real estate and construction. For 22 years, he and wife Sue have developed a significant networking business, and now they are adding a Fresh Coat Painters franchise to their enterprises.

“If you rest, you rust,” Covino said. “Last year we were noticing that we had a lot of free time during the day, so we started looking around for a business we could buy that would provide us with additional income and that had some integrity attached to it.”

He said the couple was drawn to Fresh Coat because it fit their needs while also being reasonably priced and offering a unique approach to the painting business.
